Our history

Bourgon Insurance Inc. was founded in 1887 by auctioneer and livestock trader, Mr. Andrew Philps. At the time the company was founded, Mr. Philps was also a member of the Quebec National Assembly. He opened his insurance brokerage office in Huntingdon to serve the region, including the Chateauguay Valley. At that time, the office represented Beauharnois County Mutual Insurance, Halifax Insurance Company, and Phoenix Insurance Company of London.

When Mr. Philps passed away in 1929, his son, William (Bill) Philps, took over. Under his leadership, the company continued to grow and prosper.

In 1949, Bill Philps invited Mr. N.E. (Bud) Bourgon to join the company. The arrival of Mr. Bourgon allowed the business to expand rapidly, requiring the addition of a third person, Mr. (Mckie) Cluff in 1957. It was at this time that Mr. Philps left the company. He passed away in 1961.

In 1966, the company became Bourgon and Cluff Insurance Inc. In the years that followed, the company diversified its services at competitive prices and increased its number of clients. This expansion led to the arrival of three new recruits within the company: Mr. Roger Latreille in 1968, Mr. Norbert (Bert) Bourgon in 1971 and Mr. Bernard Provost in 1977.

It was also in 1991 that Mr. Norbert (Bert) Bourgon became the sole owner of the company which then became N. Bourgon Insurance Inc. Ten years later, he was joined by his son, Michael.
